Remembering India’s First TV Star Priya Tendulkar On Her 66th Birth Anniversary

New Delhi: Priya Tendulkar, India’s first television star was born on October 19, 1954, and she is still remembered for her brilliant characters and performances.

Her father, Vijay Tendulkar was a popular writer and also won Padma Bhushan.

Priya was popular both in television and the film industry as well. She got married to Karan Razdan who was also an actor and writer. Though her marriage only lasted for seven years. She got her fame from the serial ‘Rajni‘.

She also appeared in Shyam Benegal’s classic movie ‘Ankur‘ in which she played Anant Nag’s wife.

Priya was fond of acting since childhood as she belongs to a family which was closely associated with theatre. She also used to participate in theatre during her school time. In a drama written by Satyadev Dubey called ‘Hayavadan‘, she played a major role of a character named Gudiya.

Along with her husband Karan Razdan, she played the real husband and wife in the serials- ‘Rajni‘ and ‘Kisse Mia Biwi‘. She also worked in Marathi dramas such as Kanyadaan, Ti Phoolrani, Anji and Kamla. She also appeared in Zee TV’s popular show in the 90s called ‘Hum Paanch’.

She also acted in several Kannada and Gujarati movies too.

Priya’s talent was not only limited to acting, she was also a very good writer. She wrote many compositions Tyacha question Janmaleela.

She eventually died at a very young age and the whole industry mourn on her death on the loss of such a beautiful and talented actress. She also suffered from the deadly disease of breast cancer, but she died due to a heart attack. She so well renowned person that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also expressed tribute on her death.
