Kolkata: SC East Bengal took a bold step to remove Robbie Fowler as the head coach for the upcoming season. Along with Robbie Fowler, assistant head coach, Tony Grant too lost his job.
The Club thanked both of them for their contributions as they came in when the team was going through a tough time. But the club couldn’t perform well in the last season. So, it was important to bring in some changes and hence the decision of changing the coach was made, the club said.
The club announced the decision via a Facebook post. They also informed that Manuel Manolo Diaz will be the new coach. Diaz has already signed a contract for the 2021-2022 season.
Fifty-three-year-old Diaz has a 41.6 per cent winning record in 327 matches in his nearly two decades of coaching career. With Real Madrid Castilla his winning percentage was 48.6 in the 2018-19 season.
After joining as the head coach Manuel Manolo Diaz shared his experiences with Real Madrid, “There is something special about Madrid. Victory is in our DNA. We love to take pressure. There is a different expectation to coach in a big club.”
He added, “There is very little time at hand. A long and difficult road ahead awaits us. But the only thing I can say to the SC East Bengal supporters is that we will try our best.”
