When was the last time you saw ‘actress’ Shamita Shetty on screen? Come on guys, keep racking your brain. Well barring that miss and blink appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show quite a while back, seldom have we seen her doing something concrete to hit the news. No no, wasn’t she a participant on Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (on TV)? Yes she was in…let us guess, hmmm yes in 2019.
Meanwhile, Shamita who was launched by Yash Raj Films with the Amitabh Bachchan-Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Mohabbatein (2000), also appeared in Black Widows (2020) on ZEE 5. Did she?
But hey! She is back now (in the true sense of the term) and back with a bang not only on Bigg Boss (she appeared on the TV version in 2009) but also in public eye! The first contestant to appear on the OTT version of Bigg Boss hosted by media savvy Karan Johar, Shamita should be thanking the stars for getting such a huge platform to bounce back into news for the right reasons.
Shamita may have bagged the job courtesy her own credentials, but we cynics continue to smell a rat. Want to know why?
Well, just not the stars, on the hindsight, she also owes her comeback vehicle to her favourite bro-in-law, the infamous Raj Kundra (husband of her more-celebrated actress-sister Shilpa Shetty Kundra), who is currently behind the bars for his alleged involvement in running a porn racket.
Controversies have their share of positive sides as well and the showbiz is all about lapping up masala to further one’s interests. No undermining Shamita but the row over Raj has also brought her back to the limelight unless you had been following her on the social media.
Kudos to OTT platform Voot for the gimmick that could soar up the views within a short span. It’s tough to say whether Shamita was finalised before the porn racket scam burst on the scene, but to have her enter the show before the rest, stirs up our inquisitiveness for sure. We don’t blame the producers and the OTT network because they are being professional but what a pull off guys! Hats off!
Looking back, we are reminded of somebody called Mika who was languishing in oblivion before the kiss kissa with Drama Queen Rakhi Sawant raised eyebrows. Mika may have ruffled feathers with his lascivious tendencies, but the rest is history – singing offers poured in and Mika salvaged his career.
Remember Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine (2012) which unravelled the dirty truth behind PR stratagem? A crestfallen superstar Mahi (Kareena Kapoor Khan) in a desperate bid to save her career (with a B-grade movie) was suggested by her publicist Pallavi (Divya Dutta) to leak an intimate video involving the former and a big star (essayed by Arjun Rampal) to build some hype around the sure-shot disaster. And it paid off as the video got the cash registers ringing at the box office in favour of the ordinary film. The storyline didn’t matter, the video turned Mahi’s fortunes or else the film would have bitten the dust. Bhandarkar, never shy of speaking the truth portrayed what reality is in the highly-competitive glamour world.
Shamita of course didn’t have to stoop low (one believes she would never), but negativity can be a boon at times and it yields you rich dividends. Bigg Boss itself is a reality show that runs on fights, mudslinging and consternation among the participants, so it is no surprise that the brainchild roped in Shamita for the show when the iron was hot.
Here’s hoping Shamita wins it big since it could catapult her to the big league. Her sister won the English original of the desi show to become a global sensation – the racist slurs she faced resulting in tears drew sympathy and yes yet again, REST is HISTORY!
We don’t mean to offend or insult you Shamita! No belittling here! We wish you success on all fronts, do well and get your sagging career back on track. Here’s a Godsend!
And before winding up – Readers, don’t be shocked if both Sherlyn Chopra and Gehana Vasisth (being probed in the case) land up with something lucrative. Anything is possible in the murky world of entertainment. Great service to mankind Raj, unknowingly though!
