Brisbane: Legendary spinner and commentator Shane Warne has named his current top five batters in Test. His list included India Test captain Virat Kohli, with Australian Steve Smith being his first choice.
“Smith, who was recently appointed Test vice-captain of the Australian team, has been a prolific run-scorer in modern-day cricket. He has the amazing potential to play against all bowling attacks in the world, irrespective of the conditions,” Warne was quoted as saying in a video clip shared by Fox Cricket on their official Instagram handle.
Smith has 7552 runs under his belt in 78 Tests at a whopping average of 61.4. He has 27 hundred and 31 half-centuries to his name.
“I’ve got Steve Smith. I just think overall conditions against all bowling attacks for a long period of time Steve Smith has been outstanding,” said Warne.
Warne went with England Test skipper Joe Root as the second choice. Root has amassed over 1500 runs this year including six tons. Root is ranked top in ICC Test batters’ list.
Warne also picked New Zealand and India Test captains, Kane Williamson and Kohli, respectively as his third and fourth choices.
“Williamson is always there. Kohli just dropped off a little bit. Marnus (Labuschagne) rounds up the top five for me,” Warne added.
