Kolkata: Heavyweight Yashwant Sinha had joined the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress before the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021. Now, another heavyweight national leader, Shatrughan Sinha is also likely follow suit and cross over to the Trinamool Congress from the Congress.
According to senior Trinamool leaders, talks with Sinha are at the final stages and if everything falls in place, he might join hands with Mamata Banerjee on July 21.
It may be recalled that Sinha had walked out of the saffron party after launching a tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He had said that the saffron party has become a “one-man party and two men army”. He then joined Congress.
Significantly, there are two seats lying vacant in the Rajya Sabha after former Union Minister Dinesh Trivedi quit and joined the ruling BJP before the West Bengal Elections and Trinamool Congress Parliamentarian Manas Bhuniaya contested the just-concluded state polls and is currently a minister in Banerjee’s third consecutive government. Indications in the political circles are that Shatrughan Sinha might be given a ticket to the Upper House of Parliament from one of the two TMC seats.
