Kolkata: Silence speaks louder than words – goes the age-old adage. And two persons who of late, have done ample justice to it are the brother-sister duo of Shah Rukh Khan and Mamata Banerjee.
However, their contrasting motives behind not spending a single word on the arrest and subsequent bail of Khan’s son Aryan Khan in the drugs on cruise case raise eyebrows.
On one hand, a beleaguered father runs from pillar to post to get ‘justice’ for his son, on the contrary, the West Bengal chief minister prefers not to speak publicly on the ‘ordeal’ of the Brand Ambassador of her state leaving many questions unanswered.
The Bollywood megastar who is ever affable has been off Twitter and even stayed away from posting appreciative messages for the outstanding turnaround of his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders. And add to it, his stoic silence on his son’s incarceration which is justified. If SRK’s status has risen manifold despite his son being mired in a controversy, his Didi’s apparent indifference to the entire episode accentuates doubts if at all the Iron Lady has turned her back on her adopted brother.
Quite shockingly, Banerjee doesn’t shirk responsibilities when it comes to airing her views on issues of grave concern. A political vendetta obviously triggers her reactions but more often than not, the TMC supremo is never found short of words irrespective of the repercussions. So, it is quite conspicuous that she atleast in public eye has refrained from being by SRK’s side at this hour of crisis. Perhaps, she was instructed by her adviser Prashant Kishor against being vocal on the drug case allegedly involving Aryan.
If this conjecture is to be bought then the political agendas of our lawmakers transcend the lines of emotions. At a time, when Banerjee is leaving no stone unturned to stamp her authority beyond the borders of West Bengal, she can ill afford to put a spanner in her moves by getting embroiled in any kind of disquietude.
May be she has personally spoken to SRK and announced her support, but who knows? Unless and until, she takes the official route, we commoners remain oblivious to her opinion.
Diplomacy at its best Didi but your defeaning silence may not have earned you plaudits unlike the Brand Ambassador of your state whose calm demenaour deserves kudos.
But yes Didi, your predicament is ‘understandble.’ Yet you could have done well to be in your usual opinionated avatar when your brother needed you the most. And please do not give the sub judice excuse, you have been over vociferous on extremely delicate matters. But there is still time and a word or two from Banerjee is much awaited.
