Kolkata: The neurological condition of veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who is undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at Belle Vue Clinic in Kolkata, deteriorated a bit in the past 24 hours.

However, his health parameters were good, said one of the attending doctors on behalf of the hospital on Tuesday night.

Though the MRI showed no structural abnormalities of the actor, the reason of neurological deterioration was because he took steroid treatment due to COVID encephalopathy, said the statement.

The statement also informed that even though Chatterjee was out of oxygen support mostly, there was not new infection, and his blood pressure and heart rate were at good condition.

“The only problem is Covid encephalopathy which is sub-normal. Another couple of days of being administered steroids, he will bounce back to improvement. We are considering other options to bring back his consciousness to earlier level”, said the attending doctor.

The veteran actor, who worked with renowned filmmakers like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha and Tarun Mazumdar, has been admitted to hospital on October 6 after he tested positive for COVID-19.
