Abu Dhabi: He has emboldened hundreds out of wilderness and the latest to draw inspiration from former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is none other than swashbuckling KKR southpaw Venkatesh Iyer. The young man who has played two consecutive match-winning knocks at the ongoing IPL in the UAE owes it to the BCCI President for being an inspiration.
“I used to bat right-handed when I was very young but I wanted to exactly replicate Dada, how he hit sixes and the way he batted. He has played a very big role unknowingly in my life,” said Iyer to his teammate Rahul Tripathi after the win against the Mumbai Indians on Thursday.
“Honestly speaking KKR was the first franchise I wanted to get in because Sourav Ganguly was the captain initially. Got picked by the franchise so it was a dreamy moment for me. Everyone was so welcoming, I got a lot of gifts. Dada has millions of fans around the globe and I am one of them. He has played a huge role in my batting, Iyer who scored a quickfire 53 against the Rohit Sharma-led side added.
KKR are now on a roll with two back-to-back wins in the second phase of the IPL and are placed at number 4 in the points table.
