Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has removed SSC recruitment scam accused Partha Chatterjee from three ministerial portfolios — Industry, Commerce, Council and Information Technology.
State chief secretary Harikrishna Dwivedi issued a notification at the state secretariat Nabanna on Thursday afternoon.
Since Thursday morning, the pressure was mounting within the Trinamool Congress regarding Partha Chatterjee’s removal. TMC spokespersons Kunal Ghosh had tweeted in the morning demanding Chatterjee’s removal from all ministerial and party positions only to be deleted laster in the day.
At the end of a state cabinet meeting, it was informed that Partha Chatterjee is being removed from the cabinet with immediate effect. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will look after these three portfolios held by Partha Chatterjee till date.
Incidentally, Partha Chatterjee was arrested last Saturday. Six days have passed since then, but no action has been taken by the party or the government.
It may be recalled that following Chatterjee’s arrest loads of cash were recovered from Chatterjee’s close associate Arpita Mukherjee in two phases.
Later in the day, Trinamool Congress also removed Chatterjee from all party positions after a disciplinary committee meeting at the Trinamool Bhavan.
