New Delhi: Central agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized another ₹ 15 crore in cash and almost 3 kgs of gold jewellery and bars from another house of West Bengal industry minister Partha Chatterjee’s close associate Arpita Mukherjee during the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam probe on Wednesday evening.
A massive pile of currency notes — Rs 2000 and Rs 500 — were found in one room of Arpita’s Belgharia apartment, according to ED sources. The ED sleuths found the notes from a cupboard of her flat, located on the city’s northern fringes. Bank officials are currently engaged in counting cash with the help of note-counting machines.
ED sources revealed that more documents have been found on Wednesday which is being examined. The investigators had recovered a diary of 40 pages during last week’s raid. The ED has also seized many property deeds that could implicate Chatterjee.
It may be recalled that ED arrested Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee on Saturday — a day after ₹ 20 crore was found from Arpita’s Tollygunge apartment. Both have been remanded in ED custody till August 3.
“Partha used my house and that of another woman as a mini-bank. That other woman is also his close friend,” Arpita Mukherjee has apparently divulged to the investigators.
