Washington: President Donald Trump set on a new controversy by declaring that the nation should not fear the virus that killed more than two lakh Americans and then he walked into the White House without a protective mask.
Landing at the White House on Marine One, Trump climbed the South Portico steps, removed his mask and said, “I feel good”.
“Don’t be afraid of it”, Trump said. “You’re going to beat it. We have the best medical equipment, we have the best medicines”, he said taking deep breaths.
Trump’s message have alarmed the disease experts.
“We have to be realistic in this: COVID is a complete threat to the American population”, said Dr. David Nace, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
“Most of the people aren’t so lucky as the president”, added Nace, indicating Trump’s in-house medical unit and access to best treatments.
“It’s an unconscionable message”, claimed Dr. Sadiya Khan, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. “I would go so far as to say that it may precipitate or worsen spread”.
Biden, tested negative for COVID-19 on Sunday, said, “I saw a tweet he did, they showed me, he said ‘Don’t let COVID control your life’. Tell that to all the “families that lost someone”.
Dr. Conley said that because of Trump’s unusual level of treatment after discovery of his illness he was in “uncharted territory”.
Though he said at an afternoon briefing that Trump could resume his normal schedule once “there is no evidence of live virus still present”.
