Dumka (Jharkhand): Students allegedly beat up a mathematics teacher and a clerk of a residential school after tying them to a tree here on Monday. They were forced to face this for reportedly giving poor marks in Class IX practical examination, cops said on Tuesday.
The incident happened at a government-run Scheduled Tribe Residential School that falls under the Gopikandar police station area of the Dumka district.
A total of 11 students out of 32 were given Grade ‘DD’ (double D) — considered equivalent to fail — in the class IX examination. The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) announced the Class IX results on Saturday, the police were quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
“No FIR has been lodged in the case, as school management did not give any written complaint about the incident. After verification of the incident, I asked the school authority to file a complaint but it refused saying that if might spoil the careers of the students,” Gopikandar police station in-charge Nityanand Bhokta was quoted as saying by PTI.
