Kolkata: The coveted Calcutta Football League now has a title sponsor in the Sister Nibedita University under the aegis of the Techno India Group. An MoU was signed between Indian Football Association and the group at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Monday.
Techno India Group Chairman, Satyam Roy Choudhury was initially not very keen on the sponsorship but later went ahead to support the age-old league. He informed that the one-year contract would be renewed every year. He added the alliance would not just be confined to the league but they would lend full support to IFA for the overall development of the game.
According to sources, the Techno Group will be spending Rs. 1 crore per year according to the contract out of which an amount has already been released. The Calcutta League is scheduled to start from today and with a sponsor coming in, it gives the beleaguered tournament a shot in the arm.
Present at the event were IFA president Ajit Banerjee, Roy Choudhury, MLA Debasish Kumar, IFA chairman Subrata Dutta, vice-president Partha Sarathi Ganguly and two other officials of SNU, among others.
Monday also happened to be the Football Lover’s Day and to mark the occasion, 876 fans participated in blood donation programmes at various districts all over the state. A blood donation camp involving 376 donors was also organised in the stadium.
