Kolkata: The well-known multipurpose stadium in the heart of the city, Kishore Bharati Krirangan, was turned into a fully functional Covid-19 facility here on Friday.
The make-shift facility with nearly 200 beds was launched for the public around 4 pm IST.
The stadium was switched into a Covid-19 care centre in less than 72 hours, thanks to the joint efforts from the West Bengal government and ITC Ltd. The make-shift hospital comprises both the general ward and ICU with ventilators.
This development is like a god-send one for West Bengal particularly at a time when West Bengal is grappling with the second wave of coronavirus.
The rate increased manifold thanks to the eight-phase assembly elections that just concluded in the state on Thursday.
According to NDTV, the state recorded 17,403 fresh infections — a record high, on Thursday.
