Tokyo: Tokyo: Paddler Bhavinaben Patel had to be satisfied with a silver medal in her maiden Paralymic Games appearance after going down 0-3 to world number one Chinese opponent Ying Zhou in the women’s singles class 4 final here on Sunday.
The 34-year-old Bhavinaben’s impressive run came to an end with a 7-11, 5-11, 6-11 defeat to two-time gold medallist Zhou in the women’s singles final. The summit clash lasted 19 only minutes.
Bhavinaben was diagnosed with polio when she was only 12 months old but made a huge progress in the sport. She had got the better of world No. 3 Miao Zhang of China 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8, in Saturday’s last-four clash.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Bhavinaben. He lauded her efforts and wished her all the best for her future endeavours.
