New York: President Donald Trump confirmed that his top aide Hope Hicks has been tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday night and said he and first lady, Melania Trump, have also been tested for being in close contact.
“She did test positive, I just heard about this. She tested positive. She’s a hard worker. Lot of masks, she wears masks a lot but she tested positive. Then I just went out with a test. I’ll see — you know, because we spent a lot of time — and the first lady just went out with a test also. So whether we quarantine or whether we have it, I don’t know,” said Trump in a call-in appearance.
Recently, Hicks traveled with Trump quite a few times, including to the debate in Cleveland on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, they were seen boarding Marine One with other closest aides not wearing any masks.
Reports of Hicks tested positive amidst Trump’s efforts to openly ignore science and public health practices during the pandemic, with West Wing staff abstaining from wearing masks.
The President also seemed refusing recommendations from his own coronavirus task force.
Trump and his force have been showing almost no interest in changing such practices of his staff to work according to the situation.
