Washington: Democrat presidential contender Joe Biden has surged past US President Donald Trump to take his tally to 264 electoral votes.
The former Vice-President now needs only six more votes to become the 46th President of the United States.
Meanwhile, Trump is trailing far behind with 214 votes.
Losing three key states – Arizona, Wisconsin and Michigan – has not gone down well with Trump’s re-election campaign and so it has decided to file multiple lawsuits against the vote-counting process.
The battleground has now turned to five states – Alaska, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Trump is leading in all the rest of the states except Nevada (6), where Biden is currently leading with 75 per cent votes counted in the state so far.
