Kolkata: Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee has been given Plasma therapy after he was moved to ITU due to the complications from COVID-19.
Top government doctors were deputed by Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, for the plasma therapy procedure.
Dr. Makhanlal Shah heads the of department, surgery, SSKM, and Dr. Yogiraj Ray has been leading the plasma therapy intervention in the state.
“We are grateful to Chief minister Mamata Banerjee for sending the doctors. They have approved the line of treatment”, said the hospital authorities.
The actor was admitted to the Belle Vue Clinic in Kolkata after testing positive for COVID-19.
The legend’s daughter confirmed yesterday that the actor is suffering from COVID encephalopathy and is disoriented and restless.
Daughter Poulomi Chatterjee said, “As per the team of 12 doctors attending to him, my father is maintaining his vital parameters and is stable on this count. His blood pressure is normal, and he has no need of oxygen administration at the moment. However, he is suffering from Covid encephalopathy and, therefore, disoriented and restless at this time”.
The encephalopathy led to “an acute confusional state” in the actor which requires further treatment, according to hospital sources.
Thanking well-wishers Ms. Chatterjee said, “All due care is being taken on this count. There has been no deterioration on account of his co-morbidities, including a high PSA count, pneumonia tendencies and compromised lungs, which is a good sign”.
