Kolkata: The Government of West Bengal declared on Sunday a cut in fuel prices with effect from February 22 midnight.
According to finance minister Dr Amit Mitra, petrol and diesel will cost Re 1 per litre less to give slight relief to people who are burdened with skyrocketing fuel prices. The price of petrol in Kolkata currently is Rs 91.77 per litre.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had on Saturday said that increasing fuel prices was a vexatious issue and an issue for the Centre and state governments to work it out through discussion.
Mitra responded saying a discussion can only take place after the Centre brings down its taxes.
