Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress won all four assembly constituencies — Dinhata, Khardaha, Santipur and Gosaba — in the byelections, for which the results were declared on Tuesday.
Mamata Banerjee won Bhabanipur and thereby securing her third term as Chief Minister of West Bengal. Banerjee prevailed over BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal by a margin of over 58,800 votes.
It may be recalled that the West Bengal CM had vacated her home turf, Bhabanipur, ahead of the 2021 polls in the state, to fight the election from Nandigram against her protégé-turned-bête noire Suvendu Adhikari. She had lost by nearly 1200 votes.
TMC’s Sovandeb Chattopadhyay won from Khardaha assembly seat by 93,832 votes. TMC’s Udayan Guha won by a margin of over 1.64 lakh votes.
“My heartiest congratulations to all the four winning candidates! This victory is people’s victory, as it shows how Bengal will always choose development and unity over propaganda and hate politics. With people’s blessings, we promise to continue taking Bengal to greater heights!” Banerjee said on Twitter.
The TMC had registered a landslide victory in polls held earlier this year. The party won 213 seats in the 294-member West Bengal assembly. The BJP finished second with 77 seats.
