Kolkata: The West Bengal government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a uniform policy on vaccinating the country against Covid-19 and that states should be given free vaccines.
The West Bengal government led by the third-term Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, whose Trinamool Congress was voted to power last week, has urged the top court to scrap the centre’s policy on vaccination that allows differential pricing for states and private parties.
“The centre must take immediate steps to ensure vaccines are made available and given for free to states for distribution,” the West Bengal government said in its petition.
The petition said the centre should scrap the policy for the next phase of vaccination under differential pricing, reported NDTV.
The apex court will take up the vaccination policy issue and other related matters on Monday.
