Kolkata: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court on Saturday, convicted two men for circulating Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) smuggled from Bangladesh.
As per the judgement pronounced by NIA court, the two smugglers have been sentenced to four years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 3,000.
The two smugglers are identified as Habibur Rahman (24) and Fakirul Seikh (22), both residents of Malda district, West Bengal, were convicted under Sections 489C and 120B of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In March 2017, fake notes worth Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1.90 lakh were seized from the possession of Rahman and Seikh respectively and a case was registered, an NIA spokesperson said.
The agency then re-registered the case and filed a charge sheet against the two accused.
After a probe, it was revealed that the two had hatched a criminal conspiracy for procuring and circulating FICN, which was illegally smuggled from Bangladesh and was intended to be distributed across different parts of India.
After the completion of the trail, both the smugglers found guilty of the offence and were sentenced by the Special NIA Court in Kolkata.
