Kolkata: The shocking death of actor Sidharth Shukla at the age of 40, has opened a pandora’s box – was Sidharth on drugs? Though, doctors claim he died of cardiac disorder, eyebrows continue to raise. But Sidharth is not the only Bollywood star whose demise is shrouded in mystery. Here’s looking back at some others:
Guru Dutt
The legendary actor-director died on October 10, 1964 at the age of 39. Guru Dutt was found dead on his bed and it was presumed to be an accident as he might have been trying to mix alcohol with sleeping pills. But the most popular belief is that he committed suicide.
Geeta Dutt
Wife of legendary actor and director Guru Dutt, Geeta was a very successful singer in Bengali and Hindi films and was also an exponent of classical music. On July 20, 1972, she died aged 41. The cause of her death was said to be Cirrhosis of liver as she had taken up drinking after her husband started dating popular actress Waheeda Rahman.
Divya Bharti
Known for her beauty and versatility, Divya Bharti was one of the most popular and highest-paid Indian actresses of her time, and starred in over 20 films throughout her short-lived career, an unbroken record to date. She was rumoured to be the next Sridevi in Bollywood. But Divya (19) shocked her fans and the film fraternity by allegedly jumping from her high rise that led to her death on April 5, 1993. Her death still remains a mystery though. There were even murmurs she was pushed from behind. Divya was married to Bollywood producer Sajid Nadiadwala who had to face flak for her death.
Jiah Khan
Nafisa Rizvi Khan better known as Jiah Khan and known for her performances in Ghajini, Nishabd, Housefull and others, died very young at the age of 25. On June 3, 2013, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the bedroom of her house in Juhu, Mumbai. Her mother accused her boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi of murdering her.
Sushant Singh Rajput
Sushant Singh Rajput (34) was at his peak when death forced him to part ways with life on June 14, 2020. Sushant was found hanging from a ceiling fan. There is still no clarity whether he committed suicide or was murdered and investigations are still on. There have even been talks that he was afflicted by clinical depression and bipolar disorder.
