Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ruled out any possibility to reopen schools in the state anytime soon. She said that her government will consider taking any decision regarding it after mid-November.
Mamata Banerjee in a meeting in North Bengal said that decision regarding school reopening would be taken after Kali puja on November 14, 2020.
“Any decision on reopening of schools will be taken after Kali puja”, said CM Banerjee.
New guidelines of Unlock 5.0 have been issued by the Home Ministry yesterday where it permitted more activities outside the containment zones including reopening of cinemas halls, theatres and multiplexes with only 50 per cent of their seating capacity from October 15, 2020.
The other state governments and Union Territories are provided with the flexibility to decide upon reopening schools and other educational institutions after October 15, 2020.
Earlier, the West Bengal Education Minister, Partha Chatterjee, informed that the state would wait for the pandemic to slow down as it was not in favour of “exposing its students to health risks” by reopening schools.
