Kolkata: The confusion around choosing the lead in the Sourav Ganguly biopic is gaining more steam albeit to the chagrin of millions of fans of the former Indian cricket skipper. Ranbir Kapoor has reportedly refused, Parambrata Chattopadhyay is not in the running anymore, we are told. And there’s a buzz that Luv Films which will be producing the movie, is even mulling the option of having Dada play himself on screen. Fair enough, but we hope this stalemate ends soon.
Now, in this piece, we look at some indispensable characters in Ganguly’s life without whom his biopic would lack the spice to lure the audiences. Here’s hoping, Ganguly brings before us the exact truth vis-a-vis his equations with these individuals.
Nagma (Actress): Was the Prince of Calcutta in a relationship with the pretty lady? Would Dada finally clear the air?
Mohammad Azharuddin (Dada’s first international captain): Did Azhar try to isolate Ganguly on the latter’s debut tour to Australia? Was there any attempt on the Hyderabadi’s part to prevent him from making a comeback in 1996? And of course, the match-fixing row allegedly involving Azhar, and Ganguly’s effort to get the Indian cricket out of a mess…
Greg Chappell (former Team India coach): We have heard it all about the acrimonious relationship between the two which ultimately cost Dada his captaincy. Now, we want the truth to be unravelled bereft of any concealment.
Rahul Dravid (ex-teammate): Did their friendship go downhill over the Chappell saga? To put it in other words, did Dravid prefer Indian captaincy over camaraderie? We are curious!
Jagmohan Dalmiya (legendary cricket administrator & mentor): All was not well between the mentor and his disciple towards the later stages of Ganguly’s captaincy. Is it true Dalmiya was deeply peeved with Ganguly for reasons beyond the field?
Shah Rukh Khan (KKR co-owner): Did King Khan tacitly orchestrate Ganguly’s exit from the IPL franchise? We are curious…
